Zermatt
Introduction
Zermatt is located at an altitude of 1800 meters, in the canton of Valais. Small town without cars (!), it offers endless skiing possibilities. It is possible to go up to 3900 meters (Small-Matterhorn). Next to the Matterhorn (called Cervin in French) is the lake of Théodul, where you can try ice diving. One can ski all the day, take off skis, make a small dive and ski down to Zermatt!

Glacier du Théodul
rating : 2.0
description :
In a very cold water (but really cold, as the thermometer felt to 1 degree Celsius), which was also quite turbid. This dive takes place under 1 meter of ice, and there is obviously nothing to see... Still, this is a very interesting experience, and the dive site is in a fantastic panorama.
Special memories
The coldness of the water and the bad visibility didn't allow to use of a camera
underwater... here are some pictures of the panorama you see before going under the ice...
Before diving, with the instructor on the left. The Matterhorn, majestic, in the background.
Getting into the water is quite unpleasant because of the low temperature... Several holes
made in the ice allow to get out at different places. Fortunately the suit was really a
dry one!
A view of the Gornergrad, well known by its astronomical observatory, located at more than
3000 meters.
