Loloata
Introduction
Loloata is a small island located close to Port Moresby, and accessible from the main airport of Papua New Guinea by a short journey (20 minutes by bus, followed by a couple of minutes by boat). Only one hotel is found on this island. Although accessing Loloata is rather simple, visitors immediately have the feeling of being far from civilization, perhaps because the reefs surrounding the island are marvelous and nice dives can be made there.

Pacific Gasrating : 2.0type of diving : wreckdepth : 40 m
Wreck of a 65 meters-long boat which was sank in 1986 to create an artificial reef for divers. The maximum depth is 45 meters. The wreck is in good shape, and hosts a large variety of underwater life: jackfish, groupers, batfish, pipefish, a school of lion-fish, a small scorpion-fish and some nudibranchs. -
Suzies Bommierating : 2.0depth : 15 m
Sand strip at 28 meters, which separates a coral pinnacle (12-15 meters) and a small wall on which there is the mooring. Beautiful soft and hard corals. Interesting site for micro fauna, with red scorpions (5 cm), anemones and small crabs inside, nudibranchs but also batfish and an eagle ray. -
Lion's islandrating : 1.0depth : 12 m
Diving site reserved for macro-photography amateurs... At 12 meters is found a small wreck, in which we were rather surprised to see a photographer spending more than 30 minutes! Problem is that if you are not attracted by what is really, really very small, you probably will quickly get bored on this site...
