Kamakura is located very close from Tokyo, and can be reached in less than 1
hour from there. It is therefore the first place outside Tokyo - with Yokohama,
in fact - to visit with friends coming from abroad. Just to say that I had the
opportunity to go there at least 8 times last year... Kamakura was the capital
of Japan from 1192 to 1333.

Daibutsu - The Great Buddha
|
The Daibutsu is - by far - the most famous spot of Kamakura. Built in 1252
(bronze, total weight = 850 tons), this 11.4 meters high Buddha was
previously in a huge building, which was destroyed in 1495 by a tsunami.

This is also a famous shrine. Note the sake's stocks at the entrance...

Hase-Dera
|
This is my preferred temple in Japan! First, you have to purify yourself
before entering... Then you reach a marvelous garden, which leads to the shines themselves.
 Some
pictures with Vlada (Czech Republic - my cousin) and Jan (Slovakia - previously
in TIT).

 | Engaku-ji
|
A famous shrine in Kita-Kamakura... during the cherry blossom.

 | Zeni-Arai
|
A famous shrine, where washing money is supposed to make you richer... Didn't
work so far!

Beach...
|
By the way, the reason for which Hassen and I go often to Kamakura is not to
pray - we can do it in Tokyo! But the closest beach is there, and in summer it's
really something pleasant!
